I just bought a new Canon R5 last week but I can't get it to take a picture. I have a lens attached and think all the settings are correct but something is going on to prevent the shutter from taking a picture. Thoughts?

Hello Goegl01, welcome to the forums.
There are several reasons why a camera will not take photos.
Beyond this I suggest reseting the camera to factory default settings, making sure you have a charged battery and memory card with space in the camera, then fit a Canon lens and try again.

Thank you. I have a brand new SD card in there. I bought a sigma 150-600 lens and have it connected with a Canon adaptor currently. I do have a Canon 50mm that I can try instead. Battery life is full. I'll try some of the other suggestions and see if it will work. Appreciate the feedback.

Make sure it is a full size SD card and not a micro card with adapter. Canon's don't like the adapters.

Is it a new camera or used new to you?
Where did you purchase - in a store or online?
Do you have a local camera savvy friend or camera club you could contact?

Along with p4Pictures advice, Go outside on a sunny day, press the mode button and set the A+ mode. Point the camera at something in the middle distance and press the shutter button all the way down.

How do you know it's not taking a picture? If the camera is set to electronic shutter, you won't hear anything when the "shutter" is released.

I'm new here and new to photography in general and just got my Canon R5 last week! I had the same issue with mine just today and obviously did something to put it in video mode by mistake and after about an hour I found the solution online.... press the Mode button and then the info button. Just like that it was working properly
