How to use iPhone as external monitor with EOS-1D X Mark II, Help!

ShotTaker

I have a Cannon EOS-1D X Mark II.  I would like to use my iPhone or iPad as external monitor or viewfinder.  Is that possible with this camera?  If so, what do (or how do I) need to make it happen.  My iPhone is a 16 Pro Max.  My iPad is a 10th Generation.

Thanks

Those are good apps but my results with those is the EOS-1D X Mark II is not WiFi/Bluetooth capable.  I may be experiencing a bad interface cable.  The ANDYCINE might end up being the solution.  Not terrible price but was hoping to find a more native solution.

Agreed you need to go with a wired setup on the EOS-1D X Mark II, it's your only option and a HDMI mini OUT terminal is required.

Sorry if this seems like a lame question but when you try to use the IPhone are you in live view?

Yep that is one of my on order cables I’m awaiting.  Believe current cable is bad.

ShotTaker,

I just checked, and the Canon 1DX Mark II is listed as one of the compatible cameras listed for the app called Camera Connect and Control that I mentioned earlier.

As I said, it 's a paid app, and I think it costs about $20.00 now.

The good thing is that you can try it free for 3 days before you decide if you want to buy it first.

I have an Android, but I watched a YouTube video of a guy who was using it on his IPad.

It works in either wired or wireless modes.

I have used in both, and the wired mode is super easy. As a matter of fact, that's how I got turned onto it in the first place. I was looking for a wired solution for my Android, and at the time, Canon was not offering one.

Thanks Steve.  I found the app last night and downloaded it.  When you used it as a wired interface - which port did you use?  The EOS-1D X Mark II has two - a Mini HDMI and a Digital.  Did you use either one of these type interface ports?

Digital is USB - you'll use that one. 😊

ShotTaker,

As Stephen (the Moderator 😄) pointed out, you would use your Digital or USB port.

I use the cable recommended in my Manual (it's an IFC-600PCU, but yours may be different, check your manual)

You will probably also need a short cable to connect that USB cable to the charging port on your iPhone.

I think Apple calls it a Lightning cable?

I don’t have the OEM cable thus trying to use a 3rd party cable - USB-C (iPhone connection) to USB Micro B (camera connection - digital port).  Thus far I’m not able to get a connection using the Camera Connect and Control App - USB Connection method.

Ironically, the Camera Connect & Control App works with my iPad.  Not sure why it does not work with my iPhone.

ShotTaker,

I get a kick out of using my tablet.

I shot this (wirelessly) on a hot summer's day a while back. It was 90 degrees in the sun, while I was sitting in the shade in a camp chair about 20 feet away.

I said at the time, "Break out the wine honey. Chicken's on the menu tonight!"

I shot this one indoors (wired) just the other day.

I called it "A little light reading before bed"
