EOS RP control ring.

Got my new EOS RP with 24-105mm F4-7.1 lens.

I'm three days into the learning curve with (so far) just one roadblock.

There are no clicks when I turn the control ring, also control ring functions aren't working.

Is my control ring disabled?

If so, how do I activate it?

TIA, all.

I finally got it solved - this lens has a switch on the barrel I didn't notice.

The front ring functions either as a control ring or focus control depending on switch position.

It works fine as a control ring now but doesn't click like other R lenses.

It must come from the factory with the click silenced.

When happens when you press the shutter to wake up the camera metering and viewfinder, and then turn it?

"The right mouse button is your friend."

When camera is turned on and shutter button at first depression everything comes alive.

But, no clicks and no action on the control ring.

I wonder if it's disabled somewhere and I'm missing  that setting.

Sorry, but I have to ask.  What does the FULL User Manual have to say about this?  You can download the full User Manual from the same Product Support page where you downloaded your camera software.

I would guess that the default action is manual focus, since there is no other focus ring.

But if the lens isn't set to manual focus. it should presumably default to something else (aperture setting?).

The control ring is the new ring on the front of RF lenses.

No relation to the focus ring. AF and manual work well.

This control ring can be set to quickly adjust your choice of aperture, exposure, many other functions.

How to set control ring functions is clearly explained in the manual but can't find how to activate the control ring.

I read one place the factory setting is 'off, it needs to be activated.

The focus ring *is* the control ring:

Hi there,

As shown in the diagram above, the control ring functions as the focus ring as well, dependant on where that [control/focus] switch is set to. When this switch is set to control and the camera is autofocusing, and the camera is set to one of the manual modes (P, Tv, Av, M) do you see any action or change when rotating the ring even if there is no click?

Thanks to all for suggestions. This afternoon the control ring is working fine!

Learning the myriad EOS RP options has been a lesson in humility for me.

The control ring still doesn't click, though. Could Canon have already performed their $90 'no click surgery option' on this particular camera?

I find that being able to re-purpose most control buttons is a great feature.
