First of all what mode are you shooting in and what camera model. I want to confirm you’re using the original EOS R. Not the later version that have a number in the name such as R8. Please post pictures in the forum. List all settings being used. What mode are you shooting in on the top mode dial. What lens are you using please provide the full name. Are you using a mount adapter if so is it a Canon mount adapter or a 3rd party adapter. If Canon which version they have multiple. They have the basic one, drop in filter & control ring Mount adapter versions.

It is the EOS R no numbers the lenses are Canon 100-400 F5.6 IS USM and the Canon 24-240 IS USM. Both pictures were shot at F5.6 1/1250 iso 800.  The first picture is from the 24-240 the 2nd one is withe 100-400 new lens within the month. look ar the bar code at the top right

Looks like a warm day. Environmental conditions, high waves will cause this and if you are on hot pavement chances are probable that it's environmental.

What distance are you from the subject?

Posting to the sample images in the forum seems to reduced the resolution to a mere 1000 x 667.  It’s not possible to judge the image quality.

Could you post your original image files to a public file sharing platform like Dropbox or elsewhere.  We need to see the EXIF metadata saved in the files.  RAW images would be best.

Could have been environmental. Since you mention you have a front porch set an item up with some detail on the railing a grab a shot or two with the 10-400mm. Do it in the morning and be aware of the background.

It would be helpful to know what settings your camera uses especially in your AF menu.

Also, if you don't use it Canon offers a free Photo editing application called Digital Photo Professional

Using the above link will get you to the download page and the free software is in the second cluster of applications. This software gives you the ability to view your exact focal point when you made the capture. Tells a story, most times focus issues are a user issues, others times its the set up the camera as it relates to the AF settings. New Camera sometimes takes a little while to get dialed in and the preferences for the R bodies have been changed/updated quite a bit since the T3I
