Hello, I am in need of assistance. My 5D Mark II suddenly gave me this error. The only thing new I did was change the battery first thing this morning. I did have Digital Lens Optimizer turned on but it has been working fine until now, and I’ve turned that off now. I’m mostly using an early version f4 24-105L. I do everything on an iPad Pro so no EOS utility is available to me. I’ve tried everything google and youtube said plus the following.
-Factory reset.
-Change battery (LP-E6NH).
-Try different lenses and no lens.
-Cleaned contacts
-Turn off, remove battery a few times
Note- the first time I saw this error screen was right after I snapped a picture, and it did not record an image that time. After fiddling with it for an hour this error only comes up on when I first turn the camera on, it will record an image now at least.

Hello, Mdwsr34. Welcome to the forum. As you may have noticed, this is a user forum, not official Canon Support or Service.
Based on your description, your issue seems limited to your camera and probably totally unrelated to your iPad. Am I correct to assume that the error message is being displayed on your camera?
I recommend turning the top dial to “P”, and performing a factory reset of the camera. I would also disable all noise reduction and lens correction options.
What shooting mode do you normally use on the top dial? When you are in one of the Basic Shooting modes, the noise reduction and lens correction settings cannot be disabled.
I would also recommend connecting your camera to a computer that is running EOS Utility 2, so that you can download the actual lens correction data for your specific lens, and then upload that into the camera. With this information, the camera will have the correct lens data, instead of relying on the optimizer to make a “best guess”.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The EOS 5D Mark II is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Danny, so no solution, just a sales pitch? Wow what a useful website you have here.

15 years? That got my attention. I mistakenly put II, I have a 5D Mark IV. Sorry…

Thanks for the clarification! The EOS 5D Mark IV is a much more recent model that we still support and accept for repairs if the need should arise. I've updated the thread's subject line accordingly.

Yes it is a great camera. Canon came through and exchanged it for me. It has been a great addition to my 7DII. Strange that this one also came out with firmware 1.3.4, which isn’t supposed to be released yet. Now I’m just waiting for the EF lenses to get cheaper so I can score a long L zoom.

"Wow what a useful website you have here."
Yes it is a "useful" website. But it is supported by fellow Canon users and owners and not Canon. Plus you do know that the 5D Mk II is around 15 years old? You might want to keep those two facts in mind.
