em1981,

I'm no electrician, but it almost sounds like you had a short of some kind.

If you can't turn your camera back on, advising you to reset it won't do you any good.

If you have a camera store near you, you might take your camera there and explain your problem. They may or may not offer to try and fix it. At the least they should be able to tell you if your electrical circuits are fried.

What causes this to happen. I’ve only used the camera three times and taken around 30 pictures. It cost me a lot of money and have been so careful with it so def not been dropped or mistreated.

I did purchase this from an online shop so wasn’t brand new however the company has a fantastic reputation.

surely if there was something wrong before it would have showed. I’m so careful about caring for the camera- not left in extreme temperatures etc. thanks for replying x

em1981,

I'm sorry. I honestly don't know.

I've never had anything like this happen to me.

You've got a fully charged battery and you've changed cards. For  the camera not to turn on, there's an electrical connection that's not being made.

It almost sounds like the camera got wet at some point, or something.

If it was a broken on/off switch, that wouldn't explain the weird color vertical lines.

What camera and how long ago did you buy it. Can it be returned? Look, anything made by man can and will eventually fail. Some will do so sooner rather than later. Its just how it is.

"I did purchase this from an online shop so wasn’t brand new ..."

You never know when you buy used. Good, top retailers will let you return items during a certain time period say 90 days from purchase or so just because of hidden problems. B&H, KEH, Roberts, Adorama are some I know that honor this.

EOS 1DX and 1D Mk IV and less lenses then before!

Thanks everyone- tried several problem shooting ideas but no luck. Camera returned to online shop and new 860d replacement has been sent out. Hopefully it won’t happen again. X
