I opened the side panel, I can see the lever which can open the tray cover if actuated. The error message persists when trying to print. How access the inner part of printer where the sensor switch etc are mounted?viscious circle, foreverviscious circle, forever

Greetings,

Your printer is 14 yrs old. The sensor might have worn out or failed.  Your options in this case are limited. Open / close the door and power cycle the device.  You can also try to unplug and reconnected power.  Door and cover sensors are not user serviceable and you'd probably have a hard time finding them due to the printer's age.

Used mp250s sell for as little as $15 and as much as $75.  You could probably buy one for parts.  That's if you want to spend the time to take it apart.

If this doesn't help, it's probably time to replace the printer due to its age.  It sounds like it's had a great life.

Canon has a upgrade program.  Its designed for people who have a product that has reached EOL or that is can no longer be supported from a technology perspective.  Parts availability is often the reason why products get retired.

The upgrade program gives you a small discount and free shipping on a new product.  If you would like to take part in this program, please call the Sales Department at (866) 443-8002.

Thanks for posting!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the Canon PIXMA MP250 has been retired. That means we do not offer support for the printer or updated drivers. We recommend updating to a more modern printer and reaching out to our Canon Upgrade Program specialist who will go over the best options for upgrading your printer. They can be reached at 866-443-8002.
