MX 882 prints irregular, empty horizontal lines for its black characters

I'm running an MX 882 with Word 2010 on Windows 7.  It has worked perfectly for 4 years.  Suddenly it's printing illegible pages of empty horizontal stripes across all of the black characters.  Colors are coming out fine.  Any ideas?

Help!  I had to uninstal and then re-instal the Canon Pixma MG 3220 printer.  Now, I cannot find the L shaped toolbar.  It doesn't exist.  Is there some way to get it installed on to my computer Windows 8.1????

Error message - printer in use on MX472

I see that this error message has been received by others but didn't really see a fix for the problem.  I tried rebooting and that didn't help either.  Any other suggestions?
