Printer on and off continuously

Hello,

The printer is MX495.

I did not us it for a while and today, when I started it, it turns on and off each 5 seconds.

All the printer buttons are blocked, including the power button (I cannot turn it off from the power button).

While the printer is on, no matter if I open or not the front cover, the cartridge holder moves continuously left and right without stopping.

There is a single word displayed on the display: ”Canon”.

Can you help me with an advice to eliminate this problem?

Thank you.

This has happened to my two printers, PIXMA MX490 & IP110, at exactly the same time on 5/31/2022.

Okay- add me to the "very dissatisfied with my Canon printer club"! What is Canon doing to help us all? I will be unplugging my printer and going down to the local print shop to do my work. PLEASE! Help us Canon!

SOLUTION: After a 1:57 hold time with Canon customer service.... I have the solution! (and that was 2 hours, not 2 minutes) If this is happening to you it is very easily fixed. [Removed per Community Guidelines]  Although I wish I could make up for my 2 + hours of time. The tech told me that when they walked into the office Tuesday morning, "the stuff had hit the fan" because this has affected many models and they don't know what caused it. Here is what you need to do to fix it:

Completely unplug your router and then turn on your printer (it won't stay on if your router is because of a linking problem with the router, that we are going to fix.)  So this is the step-by-step for the MG6620 and probably those models with similar menus, but whatever model you have just try to get to your DNS Server Setup. That is where the setting is that needs manually changed. So for the MG6620:

On the menu swipe to Setup, then find Web Service Setup then DNS Server Setup. Select Manual.  Press each set of numbers and change them all to 000 except the last set. That needs to be 001. So your DNS will look like this: 000.000.000.001  Click OK, then click No.

That's it. You should be good to print.

You are welcome!  Too bad someone at Canon doesn't just post this somewhere. Would've save a lot of people a lot of headaches, I'm sure.

This is a widespread issue- have not seen any response from canon- there are workarounds that have worked for some. Some of us got help from canon support and were not charged…others have been told to pay $20 to talk to anyone…….I just found a CANON USA page on Facebook and posted a question there as to what they are doing to fix it—don’t know if anyone will answer- but it is the only official canon anything I could find to maybe get this some publicity and force a reply….suggest people start posting their questions to facebook there—- maybe someone will wake up….

You should've kept reading my post.  The $20 was a JOKE. The solution from Canon is in my post.

Thank you so much for posting this. My Cannon MX490 was doing the exact same thing and I saw your post and sure enough it worked for me too.  I actually used my Iphone 12 that has the Att Smart Home Manager and blocked the cannon printer from the internet. I'm watching my 8 year old grandson and I told him I had to disconnect the WIFI  and he was not happy about that at all so I just blocked it from my Iphone. Now I can use the printer on WIFI too. Thanks Again!

Mines a MB2050 printer so not sure where the :menu is to swipe to Setup, then find Web Service Setup then DNS Server Setup: . Or is the menu on my computer

Hi Ars, If you still have the manual for your printer it should give directions but if you do not have the manual you can find one that you can read online just put in Cannon Maxify MB2050 manual in google or whatever search engine you use. From the picture that I see of your printer it would be the 2000 series that you would follow. The menu is not on your computer its on your printer. The best I can tell you is to search for the manual for your printer and look at that and go from there. I wish I could guide you but do you have any children or grandkids that could help you with it?

Worked for my Maxify MB2320.  Had to clean the print head for some reason as well since it was leaving blank horizontal lines when I finally was able to print.  Had ordered a different brand of printer to replace it but was able to cancel in time.  I will not buy another Canon when it needs to be replaced.

Not sure if you thought my note referred to your comment?- It didn’t-I definitely understood you were making a joke —a number of people actually were told they had to pay the $19.99 fee before they were put into the hold queue for ‘service’…..and then they were told to buy a new ringer….one person even posted in another thread that she bought a new printer and got it home and out of the box and when she went to set it up it did the same stupid power cycling thing we were all dealing with!…I see they now have released a firmware update that they say will fix this.  Very interesting since they also said this wasn’t a firmware issue….my printer is working for the moment, so I think i will wait to see some confirmation that the ‘fix’ doesn’t cause any new problem! - I really dislike installing firmware updates because if those are bad, they usually cannot be corrected and then you really do need to buy a new product!
