Pixma MG7520 turns on but shuts off before I can access menu

My Canon MG7520 was working perfectly until yesterday. It kept shutting itself off yesterday. Today it would start the process of turning on, but turn off before it would get to the menu. I know it's getting older, but it's worked so well until now. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks SamanthaW for the "fix". However I found a couple issues I had to deal with. I had set my DNS to manual in order to bypass the Wi-Fi issue and get printing again, and I had set it up as a USB printer to try that to get up and running. So, #1 I had to reset my printer to clear the changes I had made. (easier than going back in and manually changing DNS and settings.) AND #2 once I had it working again I deleted the extra Printer (USB Driver) from my devices so I didn't have to think which printer is which USB or Wi-Fi? So, I had to reinstall the USB driver in order for the Updater to see the printer on my computer since the updater is targeting a USB printer. To sum it up I had to reset my changes in the DNS (manual to automatic) and install my MG7500 as a USB printer. At which point the Updater worked, recognized my printer and did it's thing. Then finally I had to reinstall it as a Wi-fi printer, probably due to the reset of the DNS settings, and once again delete the USB printer device.

Canon Maxify MB2320

Printer started power cycling when Canon screwed everyone else this past weekend.  I took the DNS "Fix" and instead of doing all of the steps I only....

  1. Unplugged the printer
  2. Unplugged the modem ethernet from the router (You could also turn off router)
  3. Plugged in the printer, it turned on by itself, cycled and finally brought me to the menu without shutting off
  4. Plugged the modem ethernet back into the router
  5. Test printed from the PC, worked
  6. Test print from mobile, worked
  7. So far, so good

Printer bought in 02.2015 and have never installed a firmware update and whatever Canon did this weekend, it still affected mine

Thanks so much for this fix! I had the same issue with an MG 7520 that worked flawlessly for about 6 years - though not with a router, but with a T-Mobile WiFi hotspot MiFi device that I use for internet (very rural and no other options). I followed these instructions and the printer came back on. I was set up to try it as a USB printer, but decided to try turning the hotspot back on, and amazingly, the printer connected and after going through an endless cycle of maintenance, it printed.

My question - will this fix "stick" when I turn off the hotspot and reconnect at a later point, or will it need to be reset each time?

Canon has posted a notice about the issue - but their suggestion is to use the printer as a USB - not connected after their fix of just turning off the LAN. Seems that this fix of resetting the DNS did allow for wireless printing, but will it continue to work each time - that is the question.

Will Cannon be addressing this so that we don't have this issue again??

Again - thanks for the help and fix. I was also about ready to order a new printer, but for the moment, this has resolved the situation. 👍

@HLily To answer your question the Wi-Fi DNS fix did work repeatedly for me and so did the USb Fix. HOWEVER SamanthaW released Canons Official Fix, Scroll up to find it. It is just above one of my previous posts. So far the Canon Official Fix has been working.

Thanks so much! Yes, I did see the Canon Official Fix, which seems to involve the software update. I think I'll see how this fix continues to work before I do that update, but will keep it in mind as a backup if the issue starts to happen again!

Thanks for the reply.

Just wanted to say that I shared this fix over in the Ask Woody forums in case anyone there might have the same issue. Gave credit to sheri99 and this forum. Hope that is OK with everyone here!

This solution does not work for me because the printer keeps shutting off before I can install the firmware...

Are you turning off your router or internet connection to the printer? Once you do that, the printer should start and you can follow the firmware directions.

As HLily said, you need to shut off your Wi-Fi or disconnect your internet to prevent it from doing the shut down thing.

Yep..I just turned off my wifi at wireless router. With that the power stayed on and I could do the firmware upgrade. Canon should state up front this is a problem associated with wifi connection to the internet and to disable wifi before attempting the firmware upgrade. Canon makes a good printer but support is weak.
