Pixma MG2522 Won't Install

I was notified that I got a reply about this, but was unable to view the reply, so I deleted my original post, and am reposting.

I tried 4 times to get my new printer to install. It kept going from "printer detected" to "printer not detected, check connection". I tried every suggestion in the guide, as well as trying multiple USB ports and 2 different USB cables.

This is driving me nuts! Help!

There are several solutions people have found, including completely uninstalling all the printer's drivers and starting from scratch:

I kind of work in the hardware device industry and might have a hint what is wrong. Their driver is seriously messed up. It doesn't automatically scan the USB root port for the devices. Depending on user to boot up the printer and that to do a system hardware scan.

What I recommend is,

1. turn off the printer,

2. run that installer,

3. Turn on the printer when it ask to.

4. if it stuck at trying to find the printer, go to device manager(Windows + X then hit M), right click on anything then select "Scan for hardware change".

5. If that doesn't work, try to find the actual printer(this can be tricky, since driver not installed yet the printer is still shown as a USB device, not a printer. I would go to view, device by connection, then try to find a USB device and start browsing up and down the USB try to see if you can find anything said canon or printer, mine look like this)

6. right click on the canon printer and select install driver - search automatically for driver. Then it should really do the trick and start to install.

Good luck, and shame on the Canon Installer software team. (Not hardware's fault, not driver's fault, just the installer exe)

I am also having an issue installing the Canon MG2522 on Windows 10 and Windows 11. If I follow the setup procedure, setup program never recognizes the printer when plugged in. If I attempt to update the drive through device manager and select the driver from there, Windows claims that the driver is not properly signed and that I should contact the manufacturer.

If I use Linux Manjaro as my OS, the printer is automatically recognized with no issue.   This seems to be a problem between Microsoft and Canon.

All I can do at this point is refer you to the solution that worked for me back in 2021.

mine showed MP driver was not installed, so I removed all the canon apps, unplugged my printer from the computer and only installed the MP driver from my CD and it worked!

So glad you worked it out. Your success will be a guide for others to follow. Thanks for sharing.

This is hell on earth.

How do you remove the Canon apps?

A followup to this reply that I see in small print: How do you "go" to Printers in Settings?

If you open Settings on your computer, in the search bar type "add" and you will see "add or remove programs". Under there you will see the Canon apps and can click the three dots and then click  "uninstall".
