Greetings,

Pixma ix6820 is creating ink smudge marks on 5X7 envelopes, not A4 paper only on envelopes. Have cleaned using maintenance tabs, cleaning bottom plate and roller both unsuccessfully. Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. louf

Accepted Solutions

DerrickL, Thanks for the quick response. I have eliminated ~75% of the ink smudges by specifying 5X7 envelope printing (instead of 5X7 paper printing), the remaining 25% I think is due to printer age it is 6 years old and is not a very expensive model.

Causes of Ink Smudge Marks on 5x7 Envelopes

Paper Type and Quality

  • Ensure you are using appropriate envelopes designed for inkjet printing.
  • Low-quality or incompatible envelopes can absorb too much ink, leading to smudging.

Printer Settings

  • Check the margin settings in your printer driver. A margin of 10 mm or less around the edge of envelopes is recommended.
  • If the margin is set to none, it may cause smudging at the edges.

Solutions to Prevent Smudging

Adjust Printer Settings

  • Set the margins to at least 10 mm to ensure proper printing.
  • Use the printer driver settings to adjust the print region and ensure it is not set to expand beyond the printable area.

Paper Handling

  • Load envelopes correctly in the rear tray, ensuring they are flat and not curled.
  • If envelopes are curled, try rolling them in the opposite direction to flatten them before printing.

Drying Time

  • Increase the drying time for the printed surface in the printer settings. This allows the ink to dry properly before the envelope is handled.

By following these guidelines, you can reduce or eliminate ink smudge marks on your 5x7 envelopes when using the Pixma iX6820
