PIXMA MX922 prints tests and checks fine, but files sent to print are blank

I have a PIXMA MX922. It's 4 or 5 years old, I think. A couple of days ago it was printing without issue. Yesterday, it started sending out blank pages exclusively when files were sent to print.

I'm working in Windows 10. I deleted the printer from the system's devices, uninstalled programs and drivers, downloaded the latest drivers (which were the same version I've had, but new download), reconfigured the printer into the wifi, installed the drivers again.

The printer prints without issue when executing a nozzle test from its own Maintenance tab, or when I sent a test print (from the System interface?). Ink is good, mechanically it functions.

Yesterday when I send a file to print it would just spit out the number of pages. It did not sound like it was running through the process of printing the documents, the pages just spooled out pretty, pretty quickly.

Today, after the re-install, sending to print just hangs until Canon throws up a window in which it says "Printer not responding."

Do printers time out like that? Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot or fix? Thank you for the advice.

Hi,

If the grid portion of the nozzle check is not there after the cleanings, there is a issue with the print head. The PGBK is what is used for printing text and with it no working, that is why blank pages are coming out.

It could end up costing more to service the printer so I recommend the Canon Upgrade program.

This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.

Hi,

So we can best assist you, please let us know if the printer is connected via USB cord or wireless. Also, when you reinstalled the printer, did you install the driver from the Canon website or select the Add Printer option on your computer?

If you still have the nozzle check, please let us know if it looks like the example posted HERE.

We look forward to your reply.

Hello, Arthur J!

Apologies for my incredible delay. Life took a detour but I'm back. I'm writing to ask if this is still open and if I can answer the above questions for advice now?

Thanks!

We're all ears (or at least eyes)!  Feel free to keep the conversation going!

Danny, that's fantastic. Thank you!

So... it seems that there is some connectivity issue that I can't resolve. I say that because I've just scribbled on some paper with colored pencil and then sent it through the copier and it's printed out a very acceptable reproduction. But the Canon IJ Network Tool shows "Status: Not Found". It also names a port. Ah, and all this is relevant because I am using a bluetooth connection to send stuff. Other computers were also using bluetooth connections, and they no longer reach the computer, either.

It was a couple of months ago, but I'm pretty sure I would have re-installed the driver through the Windows internal Add Printer options, as that is my way.

The nozzle check it was printing at first was very clean. The current nozzle check I've sent is stuck in the printing queue, "Status: Error - Printing". Here it also shows a specified port.

Thoughts? Should I try uninstalling and re-installing the driver? I've got a note from 2 months ago that shows I was having an issue with a full removal of the driver. It was apparently showing a "Cannot be deleted, mx920p6.inf" error for being in use with the printer, which was at that time currently deleted from the system.

Anyway... thoughts? And thanks!

Hi,

Please try the following:

1.Click on Start.

2.Click on Devices and printers.
3. Select the printer you want to uninstall.
4. Click on print server properties.
5. Click on Driver tab.
6. Select the printer you want to uninstall and click on remove.
7. Select driver and driver package and click on Remove.

Also, please let us know if you are only able to use bluetooth or are you able to connect the printer to a wireless network.

We look forward to your reply.

Thank you for these thoughts, Arthur.

To start with the last question first, I use the printer at home, where I do have wifi. I believe the printer could be connected to the wifi. Not sure if that's the same as a "Wireless LAN". I tried connected the printer, it claimed there was an available port or portal or something, but it timed out trying to connect.

Okay. I went through your procedure, Print Server Properties > Driver Tab > Selected Printer > Remove Driver and Driver Package. I get the following error:

The following package(s) can not be deleted:

mx920p6.inf (x64)
This package contains the following driver(s) that are now in use:
Canon MX920 series Printer; This driver is used on:
   Canon MX920 series Printer

The following driver(s) can not be deleted:

Driver Canon MX920 series Printer (x64) is in use. It is used on:
   Canon MX920 series Printer

So, similar to before. I will try deleted the MX920 FAX driver first and see if that produces any different results. Hoping that you will continue to advise. Thank you very much.

I tried removing the fax driver and its package. Got the same type of error, but for the file:
mx920f6.inf (x64)

Thanks again for your time and help.

I've just tried plugging the printer directly into the computer with a usb cable. Running Windows 10. Computer does not seem to be recognizing/noticing the printer/scanner. But I'm not knowledgeable enough to know where to look and make it think about some specific port. The cable comes embedded with some goofy software I'm not running, and I don't know for certain that it isn't running any interference.

Looking forward to your input.

Hi,

Please try the following

  1. Press the Windows key and the letter R key at the same time on your keyboard. In the run box that appears, you can type in services.msc and click OK.
  2. In the list of services that appears, you can scroll through and double click on the print spooler service.
  3. At the bottom of the spooler you can click on the stop button.
  4. Once the spooler has been stopped, you can press the Windows key and the letter R key at the same time on your keyboard. In the run box that appears, you can type in spool and click OK.
  5. In the window that comes up, you can right click and delete the printers folder.
  6. You can go back to the print spooler window and then you can click start at the bottom of the window.

Once the spooler service has been started again, you can close the windows and try to uninstall the printer.
