PIXMA MP980 Printer Not Detected

I purchased a new computer and am trying to reinstall my pixma mp980 printer using the cd rom that came with the printer. I get to where it is almost installed, the screen says printer detected, and then goes to printer not detected! It says connect to a port, which I do - several ports! Nothing....

A couple of questions that will help me and/or others.

What OS is being used?

If plugged into USB 3.0, did you try USB 2.0?

Granted Windows is  being used, with printer on, go into Device Manager > Update Hardware.  See if that helps one way or the other.

Check for any driver updates for your printer from Canon.

Didn't help. Everything says printer is acting correctly.
