This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it. Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.
We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect. It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode. From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!
Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models. If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.
I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.
If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.
Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

I got this error code and if someone doesn't fix it I'm going to EPSON and NEVER coming back to Canon.

Nobody ever contacted me and I was in the class act from the start.

Hi! Is the Class Action Suit still active? If so, how would I go about joining? My printer just crapped out with this same print head error and we JUST invested in new ink only a couple of weeks ago. Worked fine after changing them until it just randomly decided to die, and I have no money for a new printer right now. I am irate. Thank you for the help!

I was late to the party too, missed out.
Fortunately I was able to buy a used MX870 for (quite) cheap to replace my MX870 with the U052 problem. Probably will buy an Epson next once the print cartidges run out.

I have the same problem with my MX726 only had a year, previously had HP printer, it seems this problem can't be fixed, so looks like I am leaving Canon forever. And I have a good supply of inks I now can't use.

Hi everyone
I have an MP530 that has worked great for years. I don't print that often, but I scan and fax a LOT. Over the time that I've had it, I've only replaced the ink tanks about 6 times!! So overall, I have not had a high volume of pages run through it, very low considering it's only had ink replaced 6 times.
Now I have this U052 error. So I bought all brand new ink. That didn't fix it.
So I bought a new print head and replaced it. That still DID NOT FIX IT. This is unacceptable!!!!
By now, I could have bought 2 new printers!!
I want canonfriends@cits.canon.com ... or @canonfriends to PM or contact me directly. I would like a replacement printer!!
Other people in this thread have gotten replacement printers due to this error, it is only appropriate to extend that offer to me and the others in this thread, especially since I have followed all of the directions and replaced all of the parts out of my own $ pocket.
The WORST part of this is, the printer is still perfectly usable to Scan or Fax, but because of their firmware design, those features are locked out!! To lock out these features for an unrelated fault is a design / programming decision is definitely questionable and clearly a case could be made that the devices are designed to fail in ways that FORCE the user to replace the entire device. The other features of the printer should NOT be locked out if the printing functions are the only thing causing an error.
canonfriends@cits.canon.com AND/OR @canonfriends .... PLEASE CONTACT ME.
Thank you
Vince

I have the MP830. I got in on the class action lawsuit and they offered others in the lawsiut a whole $50.00. I was denied the settlement stating that my printer was not on the list but here I sit looking at the printer showing wrong printhead. Dont know how that works. I found a used MP830 and changed out the circuit board and it has been working good so far. Has to be a firmware problem canon has installed to get customers to replace the printers. When I do replace the printer you can bet your sweet petuty it will not be a canon

In the middle of a print job, first few pages printed fine, then got the U052 incorrect print head message. Tried all the tips posted but none worked. Does appear to be a software defect as others are claiming, unresolved for years. Perhaps a poor attempt by Canon to get customers to purchase another printer, but this fails miserably with me because i will never buy another Canon anything, ever. There are just too many other companies selling better products to tolerate Canon,
