Trying to update R5M2. First time went without issue. Now I’m unable to transfer the .fir file to my card. I’m using the correct operating system, Mac. l know to put it in the root. I’ve tried both cards.
what am I missing? Thanks

John,

I thought that I would tell you the solution. I’m not real bright. I wrote to Angelbird and asked them. My card and reader are Angelbird. On the reader there is a very tiny switch that prevents writing on the card. That was on. I turned it off, everything worked.
‘Thanks for all your effort.

Glad it worked out. I never saw that feature on other card readers. It would be easy to miss. Select Solved so others don’t chime in. Happy Holidays to you as well.

1. are you connecting the camera by cable or using a card reader?

2. if direct connecting the camera is the computer recognizing it?

I’m using the CF card to transfer the .fir from the computer download to the camera, but I can’t get the .fir file on the card. They say just drop the file on the card but in my case the file doesn’t load to the card.

Are you using a card reader? Does the computer show you the CF card? Copy-paste doesn’t work?

I’m using a reader. When I drag the  .fir to the card on the computer screen the file doesn’t load. The card is formatted

Strange, but it’s not a Canon problem. It seems to be a computer related problem.
When you have the CF card connected to the computer do you see the camera folders on the root level of the card?

Exactly,

I only recall one that is DCIM. I’ve actually tried doing this on two computers.

You should see something like this on your Mac

I just downloaded and dragged the .fir file for my camera.

You don't want to drag to the DCIM folder; just drag to the open space.
