RC-IP100 power issue with NETGEAR POE switches

I used an unmanned POE switch from Netgear (GS516PP-100NAS) in which all 16 ports are POE.  My understanding from Netgear is that it is compliant with IEEE standards and will detect of a non-POE device is connected and not deliver power to that port.  After using the RC-IP100 a few times, it stopped powering on.  After calling support they suggested that I "be careful" with POE switches.  I saw  one other user have a problem with the RC not powering on but don't know if a POE switch was involved.  Has anyone heard about this possible issue ?

Thanks for joining the conversation, lamboht!  Just to clarify, when you say "it stopped powering on," what is "it?"  Did the RC-IP100 stop powering on or was it the NETGEAR unmanaged switch?  Also, please let us know whether the support you called was Canon support or NETGEAR support.

We look forward to your reply!

The RC-IP100 stopped powering on.  It was Canon support that I called and they cautioned me about POE switches.

Hi lamboht,

I'm sorry to hear your RC-IP100 is not powering on. Our CR series PTZ cameras can run from the power on a POE+ switch, but the RC-IP100 is not rated to use that type of power source. For the RC-IP100 we recommend using the 12V DC power supply with the AC adapter power supply that the remote came with. Using any other power supply on that remote can damage it. If you would like to view a note about that it is listed in the technical specifications for the remote on the product page HERE.

If the remote isn't powering on when you use the 12V DC power adapter and AC power adapter it came with we would recommend sending the unit in for repair.

I did use the provided 12V DC power adapter.  I was not trying to power the controller using the POE switch.  Since this is a very new switch, it does not provide power to connected devices that don't require power through the port.  I did send it back but I want to be confident that I can use this joystick on a new POE switch and not expect any damage.

Greetings lamboht,

Using a PoE switch will not damage the equipment. PoE and non-PoE devices can be mixed on the same switch at the same time without issue.
