Hello guys
I’ve just read manual for R50. Here is a wireless flash mode in menu. What does it mean? Can I use any EX speedlite without multifunction shoe but with radio slave mode in TTL mode? I have 600EX II RT and 430EX III RT. I wish I could use them in shoe of R50 without AD-E1.
Solved! Go to Solution.

There is no RT system radio transmitter in the EOS R50 camera. You cannot mount the 430EX III-RT or 600EX II-RT on the camera as there are no connections for the hotshoe of the flash. You would have to use the AD-E1 adapter, it converts the 21-pins of the multifunction accessory shoe to the older layout that the Speedlite 430EX III-RT or Speedlite 600EX II-RT has.
A better solution is to get the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E10, this has a multifunction hotshoe connection and will fit directly on the EOS R50. The ST-E10 is a radio transmitter module that will happily work with your existing Speedlite 430EX III-RT and Speedlite 600EX-RT. I have the same Speedlites and picked up the ST-E10 to remote control them a two separate off-camera units.
Then the EOS R50 camera menu becomes the way to set the functions of the ST-E10. It provides the same E-TTL / M / Group modes as the Speedlite 430EX III-RT, plus second curtain and high speed sync. On the ST-E10 is a MENU button, that when pressed instantly calls up the Speedlite settings screen on the camera.

You can use radio or optical wireless flash so that you can control your other two flashes off camera, no hot shoe required.

Thank you for reply! I am so sorry, but it is not clear for me. I am just thinking over purchasing R50 and compatibility of EX speedlite is a major point. Is the camera included its own radio module on board? Or “wireless” menu in camera just duplicates functionality of supported Canon RT accessories? I want 430EX III to be installed on the camera but to be operated by radio due to incompatibility of the camera shoe

As usual, you are correct. I got confused between the "Internal flash function settings" and the "external flash function settings". Sigh.

Hi Brian,
I am using a Godox X3 TTL trigger with twin flash. I am unable to connect it to the camera, could it be the same explanation as above? Would using AD-E1 adapter solve the issue?
Thank you,
Darshika

The EOS R50 only has the 21-pins at the front of the hotshoe, none of the five legacy connections needed by most flashes and triggers. The AD-E1 adapter connects to the 21-pins and converts them to provide the standard five pins required for your trigger.
