Hi,
I need a help about my canon R100 and Speedlite Flash settings.
I bought PHOTOOLEX LCD

1.JPG

When I use manual settings on the camera and turn flash on the external flash is working but the camera is not in "external flash mode"
When I go to
flash control -> external flash func. setting
it shows :
" This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash's power is turned off"
When I try it with my neewer strobe it shows the same.
I am a new and need a help with it please.

Thanks again for the comprehensive answer. 🙂
I am looking to buy 430EX II from ebay and will text when I got something and test it.

Hi,
I just got canon speedlite 430ex ii and it's absolutely amazing !
I use it with ETTL mode and there is no any issues with AF Assist Beam.
That "Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC)" deffenetly works great.
Thank you so much for your help! 🙂

Everything will work just fine as Canon intended it to. The 430EX series speedlites fills most of not all the needs of most people.

Speedlites: 420EX, 470EX-AI, 550EX & 600EX II-RT

For portrait photography is great as I couldn't sync neewer flash strobe. That speedlight does the job just brilliant. I will leave the theme open if more questions pops out during the photoshoots.
That you again.

Hi,
I need an urgent help with my 430EX II
I am not sure where the problem is, with the camera or the flash.
It was working great till yesterday photoshoot.
It just flash and then the photo is dark and look like it has not been used flash. Some photos are so so the other are absulotely dark with turned flash on.
I have not changed any setting (there are same ETTL) and now I can't work propperly due to that problem.
Please help me with some advise where the problem is.
Thank you.

What mode are you using on the camera. How are you attaching the speedlite. Both the camera and speedlite should be off when attaching. Then turn the speedlite on first next the camera. Have you tried the camera in Auto Mode (A+) to see if it works properly there.

Thank you for your reply!
I use M (1/40 F4.0 ISO100) mode and A+ mode as well.
I just tried to turn the flash on first and then the camera but now every single photo is dark but The Speedlite is flashing. That so so strange.
All battery are brand new.

The flash works differently when the camera is set to M mode. It’s treated as main light instead of Fill Flash. Try the camera in P Mode and see what happens. If it’s still dark make sure Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC) hasn’t been dialed to the minus side. Set it to Zero on both the flash and camera. If it’s still dark you may only be seeing the E-TTL Pre-Flash. Set the camera to Tv Mode and dial a shutter speed of 1/30th sec or slower. Then set the speedlite to 2nd/ Rear Curtain Sync also E-TTL. You should see 2 visible flashes if you only see 1 there’s a problem with the flash.

Right, on mode P is still dark after flashing.
Then I went to Flash control->External flash func. setting and flash exposure us 0.
Then put Tv Mode and 1/30 and still dark but I can't get your next instrunction:
"Then set the speedlite to 2nd/ Rear Curtain Sync also E-TTL. You should see 2 visible flashes if you only see 1 there’s a problem with the flash."
How to set it 2nd/ Rear Curtain Sync also E-TTL and where should I see 2 visible flashes?
Thank you

From the External Speedlite you can set 2nd/ Rear Curtain Sync. Or it can be directly set on the speedlite if you prefer that. My picture below has more choices such as wireless flash photography and FEB (Flash Exposure Bracketing). You can ignore those option as the 430EX II doesn't support firing off camera flashes or Flash Exposure Bracketing (FEB). You should see E-TTL on the LCD screen of the speedlite on the top left side if its set to that. The External Speedlite Control Menu always represents the current status of the speedlite. It will also show E-TTL there too.
