CANON R6 Mark ii and the EL-5 flash off camera connectivity

Tried to read up on off camera wireless connectivity in both camera and flash manuals and can't figure it out.  I was hoping to use a shoot through umbrella or soft box for Santa pics.  I planned on putting the flash on a light stand and triggering it with my R6 II but no such luck!  Ended up using bounce and reflectors.  It worked but would prefer the flash to be off camera.  Thoughts?

Did you ever learn any additional info regarding this?  Can the el-5 be used off-camera with an r6 mark ii without using the st-e10 transmitter?

It would seem you need the transmitter.  I have found nothing to say otherwise.

The camera does not include a flash radio transmitter inside. The only option is to add a suitable transmitting device on the hotshoe of the camera. 

If the EL-5 is used off-camera it must be configured as a receiver unit, and the unit on the camera is the sender. 

Current devices that can be used as a sender on the camera include

• Speedlite Transmitter ST-E10
• Speedlite EL-5 (another one)
• Speedlite 430EX III-RT

Additionally the following devices can also be used but may require the AD-E1 multifunction shoe adapter

• Speedlite 600EX-RT / 600EX II-RT
• Speedlite EL-1
• Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT / ST-E3-RT v2
• Macro Twin Light MT-26EX-RT
