CANON R6 Mark ii and the EL-5 flash off camera connectivity

FrancineMorriso

Tried to read up on off camera wireless connectivity in both camera and flash manuals and can't figure it out.  I was hoping to use a shoot through umbrella or soft box for Santa pics.  I planned on putting the flash on a light stand and triggering it with my R6 II but no such luck!  Ended up using bounce and reflectors.  It worked but would prefer the flash to be off camera.  Thoughts?

Hi Francine,

To shoot wireless off camera flash without a compatible flash with transmission capabilities mounted on the camera you would want to use a flash transmitter. For the Speedlite EL-5 and the EOS R6 Mark II you would use the Speedlite Transmitte ST-E10 which you can find in the link below:

Or simply get a flash extension cord. No need to worry about losing link!

It doesn't look like there is any place for a sync cord on either piece of equipment?

Not a sync cord, a flash extension cord. It appears that there is not yet one for the new multi-accessory flash shoe. Here is one for the old 5 contact shoe:

ETA: I was wrong, there are multi-function extension cables, Canon just does not sell them on its site! B&H does, though.

ETA Again: The site does have them:

https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/off-camera-shoe-cord-oc-e4a?color=Black&type=New

They did not link to it from the EL-5!

That's great news!  Thank you!

Off Camera Shoe Cord: $180.00
ST-E10 Transmitter: $119.00
- any questions? -

How often does the off-camera cord lose link?

8^)

A BestBuy Representative said the R6 mark II can control the EL-5, WITHOUT the St-e10 Transmitter, by using the RF feature. I left the store, excited, and forgot to ask where is the RF feature. I havent seen the rep since ...
If any of you know of a RF feature, please advise.

Seems a little remiss of the BestBuy rep to miss the chance to sell you an ST-E10 Maybe they were just out of stock of them and the rep was worried you'd go somewhere else to get both the EL-5 and ST-E10.
