While I was scouting around Malin Head, Ireland, the sun was starting to get lower. Since I am a geologist, I am always looking for rock formations in a more artistic way to include them in some photo compositions and Ireland, like Iceland has many rocks on the surface of all shapes. I came upon this dynamic scene and took note of the sidelight on the mainly quartzite formation. Suddenly, a member of our photo group came out of nowhere! He did not see me, so I waited to see if he would stop and he did. Exposure was not easy, so I exposed for the brighter mid-toned rocks on the right. This left the very dark rock valley on the right somewhat under exposed but not to the point of blocked-up shadows. I quickly shot a few frames hand-held and this is the best one. I shot the scene with my EOS R5 and an RF 24-105 f4 L lens.
