Canon LiDE 400 - Can Not Scan at 4800dpi

Hi there, 

I recently bought the Canon LiDE 400 scanner as the resolution goes up to 4800. I need the maximum resolution as I want to blow up some antique hand painted artworks which are tiny. I have tried downloading the IJ scan utility software and changing the settings in drivers to allow large image scanning (found this in a previous post) but the resolution is still fixed at 600dpi. I am on a macbook pro. Is there another way and why can i not scan at the full resolution?

the input can be the full glass.  the output maxes at 6.7" x 9.2" at 4800dpi

Did you just calculate how much pixel data fits into 4GB RAM when not using 48bit color mode and then express that as square inches times dots(pixels) per inch? 6.7 × 9.2 × 4800² * 24/8 = 4260556800 Byte ~= 3.96GB. Or Is that some kind of default preset size that the scanner software lets us select? Not sure what that your comment is supposed to mean or how this should be helpful. 

Fact is: With the current driver on Windows 11 it is not possible to scan the full glass surface at 4800dpi in one go even with the ScanGear dialog.

No, I kept adjusting the size until it worked.  If you don't find it helpful, then do whatever you like.  I'm just trying to help.

Presumably the Canon moderators deleted both our followup discussion and the useful discussion about the 3rd party tool working.

Moreover I always get vertical stripes in the image at 4800dpi. Like this:

I know it's not been random vibrations during scanning because I did the scan four times now and the vertical lines were always at the exact same position.

Picture is 14060 pixel wide. One vertical line is approximately 6983 pixels from the left and the other 10439 pixels from the left. It happens with both Color and Color (64bit) modes.

It happens both when directly saving to jpeg file from ScanGear, and when using ScanGear to import an uncompressed image into GIMP.

I haven't seen this issue with my 4800DPI large scans.  But I don't use GIMP (I have Photoshop).  If it's in the same spot, I would think it's software-related.

Additional tests show that the vertical stripes are also clearly visible at 2400dpi:

A quick look showed that around 600dpi it's not high res enough any more to notice them straight away.

Looks like the LiDE400 scaner has multiple significant problems with high dpi scans. Does anybody else see those stripes on their LiDE400 scans?

Exactly like kwinz , I have the same question, why am I limited to a maximum image size of 4GB

I was surprised I had this ability on my laser printer which only officially supports 1200 DPI maximum.  I have no need for scans this large however.
