EOS C500 Mark II- inconsistencies with SDI Out terminals

Hey all -

Looking for any suggestions, I'm using a c500mkii with the Mon and SDI Out terminals (one on body monitor, 1 teradek sending signal to video village). I'm using a Shogun Inferno from the SDI Out (for a ProRes backup record) and the monitor out sends the video village signal. Recently, I've had inconsistencies with the SDI output and now it's stopped working altogether. I've tried to down-res the video to SDI Out (2K/1080, and 1080), but nothing. I can get monitor signal out to other devices no problem and the Shogun can receive the monitor out signal. I've tried a down converted signal (1080) to a SmallHD Cine7, but can't seem to get any SDI signal to that monitor regardless so that's probably a separate issue.

I've updated the firmware (1.1.3.1) and no change. We used the C300 mkii before this and only had an issue until forcing an HD signal instead of UHD. We had a shoot with these cameras a couple weeks ago with this same setup and was able to get and record UHD to the shogun. Just wondering if anyone has any insight or experience with this?

We generally shoot UHD (3840x2160), 23.98p, XF-AVC format.

You can start by trying to change the resolution on the SDI port to 2K/1080. You may also want to try the settings below that. Some external devices do not accept a 12G-SDI signal, and reducing the resolution converts the 12G signal to a 3G-SDI signal.

The settings can be found at the back in the Setup tab.

Hello all -
An update: We did have one camera with a burned out SDI port, that was sent to Canon and replaced. I believe plugging in the SDI cable to the monitor and camera before powering on the monitor caused the power to burn out the port. [Someone posted a link to an article about this, very helpful] Luckily we work very close to the Canon offices in Burbank and they were able to send someone out in-person to take a look at our setups.

The SmallHD monitors only do UHD through HDMI, so changing the SDI Out from UHD to HD (along with a cable swap) has fixed the issues on the other cameras.

Hey absolutely, it's in the 1 Select MENU > [System Setup] > [SDI OUT Output (Max Res.)] > Desired option.
It's the second-to-last tab of the menu (wrench icon), page 2, 4th item down. Hopefully this helps your situation!

Found the solution.   Page 156 of the manual, Using the SDI OUT terminal.

  1. Select Menu > System Set up > [SDI OUT Output (Max Res.)] > Desired option.

  2. Also needed to change P to psf (strangely didn't do this for the mon out and it worked).

Happy to avoid service !

That's more or less what bbellotte and I advised you to do. I wonder why you bother asking the community when you end up looking it up yourself?
Anyway, it's good that you found the solution.

Hi Mcbarny, yes I did look for myself first and not sure why I missed the answer in the manual at that time.   I always try to look for myself and then ask, this time I missed the answer.   I posted my findings before your and bbellotte´s suggestion .   If you look all three were posted the same day.    Maybe I rushed into sharing my good luck out happiness !    Anyways, thanks again for the help.   It is much appreciated.
