Hello -
We recently bought 3 units of Canon PTZ CR-N300 cameras for media streaming. We want to integrate these cameras with our existing network, which is powered by a Cisco Catalyst 3650 48-port Gigabit switch with 390W PoE+ IP base. However, when we connect the CR-N300 camera to the switch, it doesn't turn on, even though the switch is successfully powering other PoE-enabled devices.
Is there any documentation from Canon that explains how to configure the CR-N300 to work with a PoE+ switch? Alternatively, do you have any recommendations for network switches that are compatible with this type of camera, aside from Cisco switches?

I have the solution. Cisco uses both CDP and LLDP discovery protocols, my switch only had CDP enabled. Enabling LLDP fixed the problem.

Hi daustaz,
I'm sorry to hear your camera isn't powering on when you connect it to your PoE+ switch. There aren't any settings on the camera to enable it to work with PoE+ switches. The camera can power on with a PoE+ power supply via LAN connector (IEEE802.3at compliant).
One thing to check is how your switch distributes power. Some PoE+ supported hubs limit the power used per port or the total power consumed by each port. If the limit is exceeded, it may not start, so check the instructions of PoE+ supported hub for use. If your PoE+ switch limits power to each port we would recommend contacting the manufacturer to see if there is a way to disable that limitation.
One other thing to double check would be to try using the power adapter that camera with the camera to see if the camera is able to power on. That would help narrow down if this is an issue with the cameras or if it is related to the PoE+ hub.

Hi, I have the same issue on a Cisco 3850 48u switch. The camera powers up then switches off again. The switch is 802.3at compliant.

Along with the troubleshooting that Hazel_T has described below, let's make sure that the PoE+ connection has a rated power supply at 25.5W along with being IEEE802.3at compliant.

Thanks for the reply, the switch is a Cisco 48 port UPoE switch that is 802.3at compliant. it can deliver up to 60w per port. We currently only have 5 other PoE devices plugged in that are operating OK. the switch has plenty power as it can accommodate up to 30 devices at the same time drawing 60w.
The symptoms is the the camera powers up OK when plugged in, then it switches off, then restarts and cycles again.

Does the camera do the same restarting issue if the camera is using wall power without being connected to the POE+ switch?
