Canon HF G40 setting to show recording clip length

On the Canon HF G40 how do I set the cam to show recording clip length and not the combined length. When I record the camera displays the combined recording time. I would like to see the current clip recording time.

Your camcorder can only display the overall recording time.

Will Canon be incorporating this option in any future firmware addons? Seems like a fairly basic feature that is pretty useful.

I really wish Canon would put this feature back. I upgraded from HF S20 which indicated current recording clip length which is more important to me than combined clip length. I don't see why that had to change it? HF S20 also showed how much recording time left which is far more helpful combined clip length. 

I'm not sure if we can request a feature to Canon or not. Otherwise the cam is great
