Poor print quality from my PIXMA Pro 100 compared to by HP Laser

The difference between the print quality of my Pixma Pro 100 and my ancient HP Laserjet is huge.  My laserjet prints bright and crisp and my Pro 100 prints muddy and dull.  I bought the Pro 100 about two years ago specifically because I heard the print quality was great and I needed to be able to print on photo paper.  I was trying to resize some things today and was sending print jobs to both printers, so I was able to compare.  I did clean the print nozzle, but that didn't help.  I looked through the forum but really couldn't see to do anything other than letting whatever program I was using control the print job.  However, if I do that, I can't control the print quality (Best instead of Normal, Photo paper instead of Plain).  Help please.

Welcome to the forum.

What operating system and print software afre you using?

Do you have the correct printer driver installed?

Have you had this problem for two years or did it just happen?

What paper are you using?

I'm running macOS Big Sur, I'm not sure about the printer driver as it's been installed for awhile, I have barely used this printer so I'm not sure when the problem started (yes, I cleaned the printer head), and I'm using Canon Matte Photo Paper.

Thanks!

M

Before you can judge if its a printer problem you might want to try a glossy or semigloss paper.

Matte paper is not a best choice if you are looking for crisp images.

If you haven't updated the driver since you installed macOS Big Sur you might check and download the latest driver version.

Thanks John.  I'll give that a try.
