My maintenance cartridge is full (for the first time, this being an 1100 that I bought a couple of months ago). No problem - I nstalled a new MC-20 but the printer says "the maintenance cartridge cannot be recognized correctly. Install the correct maintenance cartridge". This is a genuine Canon MC-20. I will say I have had it for perhaps two years, having stocked up after the last shortage. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Denchamber! Thanks for contributing to the Canon community. I see that your imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 is displaying an error that mentions the maintenance cartridge is not being recognized.
Since you did install a genuine MC-20, I would recommend that you go through the replacement process again. Please be sure to follow the instructions that are illustrated in the following section of the printer's online manual:
https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/All/PRO-1100%20series/EN/UG/ug-235.html
You can try turning the printer off and on to clear the error. If it does not go away, you will not be able to perform the first five steps. That is fine. You can skip to step 6 and start there. Please be sure to read all of the notes under step 9. When you get to step 10, please make sure that the lock lever is pushed all the way up.
If you are still getting an error after going through the replacement instructions, please turn the printer off and wait for it to power down completely. Then, disconnect the power cable. Please leave the power cable disconnected for at least 1 minute before reconnecting the power cable and turning the printer on (you can wait longer than a minute if you want).
If the error returns, I recommend contacting us. If you created a Canon account and registered the printer, you can dial 1-800-652-2666 for support. If you have not created your account or registered the printer you can do that through the following web page:

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.

Sorry, no. I haven't had mine long enough and used it enough yet to replace my first one, though it is reporting it is nearly full, so I will be pulling out one of them soon. I will be tracking your progress and hope you will please report back with a resolution. Sure makes me glad I bought the CarePAK!
Did you get the MC-20 directly from Canon? If so I would give them a call. If not from Canon, then the supplier. If they are Canon Authorized, they should be able to offer some support, I hope, though they may just direct you to call Canon. Hopefully it will be a simple fix.

Thank you JayC1. I obtained another genuine MC-20 and it worked fine so my previous one was apparently defective - and not of enough value to try to return. The instructions above are interesting, though. I have never gone through the on screen maintenance menu when replacing my cartridges. I just get the message on the screen that the cartridge needs to be replaced, and I just "do it". In the future I will try to remember to walk through the maintenance menu as that could make a difference.
