Canon pro-100 firmware upgrade from 1.1 to 2031

I havent been using my printer so i haven't been doing my firmwares updates like i should.  I missed 1.2 and 1.3, now i want to update it to the latest firmware and it keeps giving me an error.  I have tried my windows 10 and windows 7 and  both are giving me the same error while updating the firmware.   it shuts down the printer mid way and says it cannot connect to the printer.  no data transfers.   drivers are installed on the computer and it works, and it can print.  i just want to update the firmware.  If someone can kindly help me with this, thank you in advance.

Hello, Canon community members.

 

For those of you having trouble with the PRO-100 firmware update, if you are using a laptop (such as ducmis' Macbook Pro), make sure it is connected to external power.  The USB signal tends to be too weak for the printer when the laptop is running on battery power.

 

If you are connecting through a USB hub, try connecting directly to the computer.

 

If your computer is running an antivirus, then you may need to temporarily disable the antivirus, or run the Firmware Updater as an administrator (right-click the file > Run as administrator).

Hi Darius.

 

1. I tried with PC desktop and MacBook Air powered from AC.

 

2. In both cases USB was directly connected to computer; no hub.

 

3. I just tried running as administrator - no success

 

4. Turned off antivirus - no luck

 

The updater is executing. I tstates preparing. Then it shifts to starting transfer. In a few seconds the Windows sound for a disconnected devise sound, the yellow light starts blinking three times. Then the error message about a send error appears.

Darius, i am getting the same error.  all my computer were plugged in with power.  i even tried using three different USB cables.  it's all connected directly to my computer.

Hi ducmis,

 

If you are having problems with the updater and the alarm light starts flashing 3 times during the update, you can try uninstalling the printer driver and then installing the latest version of the printer driver from the link provided HERE.

 

Before installing the drivers, I would suggest going into device and printers by pressing the Windows key and the letter R key at the same time on your keyboard. In the run box that appears, you can type in "control printers" and click OK. In devices and printers check for any icons for the pro-100 and if any appear, you can right click on them and then you can select the option to remove the device. After checking devices and printers for any extra icons, you can start the driver install.

 

After the driver install, you can try the firmware update again. If the update still fails, I would need some additional information to assist further.

 

  1. What is the specific error that you get during the firmware update process?
  2. How long is the USB cable and are you connecting to a port directly on the computer?

Hello Hector.

 

I had previously deleted and reinstalled the driver. The only thing I didn't do was look for an icon in Devices & Printers.

 

So I repeated everything you recommended.

 

Here is the error message that appears:

USB cable is about 3 feet long.

I can "second" this issue.  I have exactly the same problem - cannot upgrade from 1.10 to 2.031. 

 

I always use a USB cable (tried two in case I had a noisy cable).

 

Tried the update on Windows 10 64-bit (1909) on XPS 15 9530 Laptop  - Updater gets to the point of "Transferring data" , printer is blinking orange, hear the windows "connect" noise, but no indication of data transfer.  Times out with error.

 

Tried on 2013 iMac running Catalina 10.14.4.  USB cable, virtually the same problem.  Printer looks like its ready to receive but nothing transfers.

 

On the windows side, I also tried to run the Firmware updater in Compatability mode for Windows 7 - no change.

 

It would be nice to update.

@Darius - do you have links to some of the earlier firmware update?  I have run across plenty of devices that have warnings and special instructions when trying to make large upgrades.  For example, "When upgrading from 1.x to 2.x you must first flash firmware blah blah blah".

I also tried to power drain the printer in case some residual charge had a bit in the wrong state (i.e. unplug, press the power button several times, hold the button, plug back in).   That sometimes helps PC motherboards, etc., but unfortunately not here. 😞

I'm running Windows 10 pro and yes I have a USB cable connected to the printer.

 

I'm having the same problem installing the firmware on my pro-10.

 

Something that I did notice is once I start the upgrade the resume/cancel button starts blinking amber. 

 

Once the error message appears the amber light stops and the printer turns off.

"I now have a reply from Canon UK who admit the Pro 100 firmware update was released in error to users in Europe:

We have spoken to our product specialist team and we now have an update regarding the firmware update issue.

There are 2 different versions of logic board present in PRO-100 globally & this firmware version (2.031) is for the type of logic board not applicable for Europe region.

We have had confirmation that the latest version of firmware for the Pro-100 products for Europe region is 1.100, there is no fault with your product, and it was a mistake at our end.

The firmware version installed on your printer (1.100) is the latest version.
There will be an update notification available on Canon support website explaining the difference in near future.

We would like to pass on our sincere apologies for the frustration and inconvenience that has been caused."

 

For the folks who had success here - what FW did you have before the update?

I just talked to Canon support again. According to a Canon engineer the 2.031 firmware will not work on some models of the Pro-100 and Pro-10 printers due to when the printer was manufactured  I asked if that’s the case then why isn’t there something in the firmware instructions regarding the firmware not working on some models of the Pro-100 and Pro-10? I was told he will pass that along.
