Can't install Pro 100 driver on new Windows 10 pro computer

I upgraded to a new Dell XPS Windows 10 computer. When I try and run the driver (PRO-100 series XPS Printer Driver Ver.5.87 (Windows)) I keep getting this message:

No IJ printer driver is correctly installed. Install the driver correctly so that printing can be executed... blah blah

I've tried repeatedly, turned off Windows' driver safety feature, run 'find new devices', nothing works. I'm using a direct connection (USB) because wifi can't handle huge photoshop files.

There's nothing wrong with the computer or Windows. I've installed every other device including a laser printer with no problems, only the Pixma 100. Help!

Thanks,

Ed

Windows 10 pro up to date, Canon Pixma 100 printer. The printer worked perfectly on my old desktop.

Ok, I'll try that, thanks. But I didn't see any option for  drivers at all, much less 8/16. Where can I find it?

Greetings Ed,

You need to install the standard 8 bit driver first, then you can install the 16 bit XPS driver.  It works more like an overlay.

Found it. Website is poorly labeled, though, it defaults to the 16 bit. Had to dig to find the 8 bit which is not labeled as such.

Thanks for your help.

Click the link I posed above.

One more question: the driver package (working well now, thanks) doesn't have the utilities with it, specifically the ink levels. Is that available in another file?

It's not a separate utility. It will display when the printer is printing a file.

You can download "My Printer" app from Canon and use that as well. It's the Printer Status button.
