Canon imageFORCE C331 - WiFi Card Installed, Can't use 5Ghz Networks

Hello, we have a Canon imageFORCE C331. The area it is installed does not have a drop for a wired ethernet connection. So, we contacted Canon and ordered a WiFi card for the copier:

- WIRELESS LAN BOARD-H1 WITH 5GHZ LICENSE AND ATTACHMENT KIT SET

Item code 6610C006AA. A Canon tech installed it for us a couple days ago. We attempted to set it up over WiFi. It was able to associate with our office network SSID. The copier was taking hours to process a single print job while connected over WiFi. A packet capture revealed a number of dropped packets. I am guessing interference from other WAPs was the issue. So I attempted to connect it via a 5Ghz SSID.

It seems it can only connect over the 2.4Ghz bands. Our 5Ghz networks are visible on other devices, but not from the copier's network setting when attempting to connect to a WiFi network. The board apparently comes with a 5GHz License and Attachment Kit, but so far no luck with that.

Is there a setting that perhaps needs to be enabled on the copier in order to connect to a 5Ghz WiFi network?

There should be a setting for 5ghz

  • Wireless LAN Board: Ensure that the optional Wireless LAN Board is installed in your printer.
  • Network Information: Have the SSID (network name) and password for your 5GHz network ready.

Connection Steps

  1. Access Network Settings:
    • Turn on the Canon imageFORCE C331.
    • Navigate to the network settings on the machine.
  2. Select the 5GHz Network:

    • In the network settings menu, look for available wireless networks.
    • Choose your 5GHz network from the list.
  3. Enter Password:

    • Input the required password for the selected 5GHz network.
  4. Follow On-Screen Instructions:

    • Complete the connection by following any additional on-screen prompts.

Important Notes

  • Ensure that your router supports 5GHz connections and that it is enabled.
  • If you encounter issues, verify that the Wireless LAN Board is properly installed and functioning.

Thanks for joining the conversation, russelljt1!

While our forum community members are welcome to chime in, Canon does not provide direct support for products in the imageFORCE series. Instead, your dealer will be able to help you! If you don't have a dealer and you're in the United States, please call us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) and we will be happy to provide you with the names of dealers in your area.

If you're outside the USA, visit http://global.canon and choose your country or region from the map for local support.

We hope this helps!

Hey Derrick, thanks for the reply. I have three SSIDs- first is dual band with band steering enabled, second is 2.4Ghz, and third is 5Ghz. The copier can connect to either the first or second, and when connected to the first (dual band) band steering is not effective and the copier just connects on 2.4Ghz. The 5Ghz SSID is not visible when looking for available wireless networks. I know it's not an issue with the SSID, as the other devices I have on the network have visibility of this SSID and are able to connect without issue.

The copier is located right below our access point that is broadcasting it, so I know it is not a matter of signal strength. I suppose that just leaves how the card was installed.

Greetings,

You need to contact the party who installed the card for you.  If it won't see a 5GHz broadcast, and is capable, something is amiss.
