PIXMA MX494 IJ Scan Utility generates error message

Hi Michael, thanks for this.  I'm using an MX494 printer and can't find the software for the IJ Scan Utility to match my printer.  So I can't try out the proposed solution above.

Please can you assist?

Hi Michael, 

 I am using a canon MX494 and using a USB cable to connect with my laptop which is operating with Windows 10.  My laptop picks up the printer and I can print, but when I try using the IJ Scan utility and scan directly from their I get the error message that the software cannot connect with the scanner. Very odd since the printer and scanner are the same piece of hardware. 

Please can you advise how I can trouble shoot this.  The solution suggest above has not been successful.
