PIXMA G5020 Driver Reinstallation Stuck

G5020 Quit Working

This is the message I get:
"A file required by the Canon IJ Status Monitor is missing, or a different version exists.
If restarting the computer does not correct problem, reinstall the printer driver."

I then went to the site to get the new driver, have gone through the entire process - and it has now been spinning in the last step, without finishing - for 15 hrs now.

Maddening, to say the least.
Can anyone help?
