New router - Network install failure - New port could not be created: 2300

Hi folks,

I have a Canon PIXMA MG3170.

I run Win 7 Pro - 64bit SP1.

I print (or used to) via wireless

I recently got a new router/modem (Huawei EchoLife HG8045A GPON Terminal), thus a new SSID and password. I had been unable to get my printer recognized. The network tool kept saying that there was a problem with the ports. The on-screen manual was less than helpful. So I uninstalled ALL the Canon printer software and unistalled the printer from Devices and Printers. I then tried a fresh install with USB support - several times now - and keep getting the following errors:

Step 3 - Network setup could not be installed.

New port could not be created: 0023

I'm bummed!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the respose, John Hoffman.

So I guess you are suggesting that my problem is beyond the scope of this forum? I was really hoping that it wasn't.

I live in Vietnam. Sadly, an overseas call is out of the question until late January - the overseas cable that serves Vietnam has been cut and international internet capacity has dropped to less than 40% of normal. Repairs are projected to be complete somewhere around the 25th. We rely on VOIP for international calling and it's just not going to work. Right now it is taking forever just to load a simple page.

I posted in this forum because y'all speak my native language. Try as I might, my Vietnamese is abysmal, especially when it comes to tech.

I'm hoping someone can help...

Hi blankslate.

Most folks on this forum are just end-users who try and help others. I am an amateur photographer, but have an engineering background, am quite good at trouble shooting issues and know my way around searching for answers, so I genrally try to help.

i do a personal triage when I see questions on the site: 1. can I help directly based on knowledge/experience, 2. based on the wording of the question does it look like the person will be unable to be assisted remotely (i.e. my wife is an eductaed teacher, but doesn't have the computer skill to follow most troubleshooting guidance), or 3. person can be helped but I can't help. Then I do whnat I would do - call the help line.

I am in the US, and went from there.

I found this on line: http://support-vn.canon-asia.com/?personal&lang=EN

Maybe they can help, or perhaps another person here can help.

Hi John,

I appreciate your reply. I do have an email out to the Vietnam support and have been waiting for a reply...

I find the techs here can be really clever, but it is really difficult - both ways - to communicate exactly what the problem is and how to fix it.

I will leave the question open for now while I wait to hear from the local techs...

Thanks for your help!

Kudos to you. 🙂
