PIXMA G3000 Series: New port could not be created 0000 Windows 11

It's been a while since I have had to use my printer and now it will not print. I've been using it with this computer running Windows 11 for a year. I've tried everything, even uninstalling including drivers. Now when I try to install drivers of Canon G3000, I get the message "New port could not be created 0000".

Greetings,

Please help me identify your printer model.  The G300O usually refers to a series not to an actual printer model.  Can you please verify/confirm the actual model of your printer?

If you are in the US, might your printer be a G3200?

Do you have any third party antivirus installed on your Windows 11 computer?

Please tell us how your printer is connected and to what? USB / wireless?

I can provide next steps once you've answered the above questions.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Canon Community!

Since it sounds like you might be working with a G3000 series model, the situation is likely much easier to resolve than with older hardware. The good news is that the G3000 is fully compatible with Windows 11, so this is likely just a configuration hurdle.

That specific error (New port could not be created: 0000) is usually a helpful clue. It often suggests that Windows 11 is preventing a manual connection due to its stricter security protocols regarding "Local Ports." Essentially, the operating system can sometimes block manual attempts to build these connections.

Recommendation:

For the best results, we suggest letting the official Canon setup file handle the port creation automatically. Here is the process we recommend trying:

  1. Exit the "Add Printer" wizard in Windows Settings if it's still open.

  2. Go directly to the official G3000 setup page: https://ij.start.canon/G3000

  3. Click Start to download the automatic setup tool.

  4. Run that file. The installer is designed to bypass those security blocks and configure the port for you in the background.

If the installer asks how to connect, select Wireless LAN Connection (or USB if you are using a cable) and follow the on-screen prompts.

If you get stuck or need one-on-one help, you'll find all your support options in your Canon Account at https://canon.us/account

Greetings,

That's helpful. You didn't say if you had any third party antivirus software installed?  If so it can potentially block the installation software from installing correctly.

You must also install the printer under an account that has administrative privileges.

You are welcome to try to use the IJ setup mentioned in Stephen's post above.  If you continue to experience issues, please let us know.

The drivers should also include a utility called

cnmnpu.exe which typically resolves the cannot create Port 0000 error.  It would be helpful if you could provide the actual model of your printer.
