MF654Cdw Remote Printing

fortwendelconst

I've looked all over and I'm hoping someone can help me clarify once and for all, can I print remotely to the MF654Cdw? For instance, is there a way I can be away from the office and easily print to the MF654Cdw in the office either from my phone or laptop? And would this work even if a computer is not connected to the printer at the time?

If the answer(s) are yes, please provide details on how to do this because it doesn't seem to be an easy setup. Thanks!

Greetings,

The setup for this configuration is called iFax. It's documented in the printer's user guide.  It is similar to scan to email which is outbound.  iFax works as an inbound connector and allows the printer to print inbound emails from remote sources.   Setup is not difficult but it depends on your understanding and skill level.

Thank you. I have tried this a couple of times and everytime I check connections, the SMTP connection works fine, but the POP connection throws an error:

Server authentication error.

Check User Name and Password for the POP Server.

sometimes I get an "Unable to connect to server."

I have created an email on gmail and enabled the POP3

I have double-checked, triple-checked the pasword I'm using.

I changed the POP3 Port number to 587

Any advice on what I could be doing wrong?

The printer doesn't use modern auth, so create an app password in your Gmail account.

Thanks. I figured that one out and used the app password but still got an error. I've looked around I'm not seeing where I've gone wrong. Error:

Could not find the server.
Check the settings for [POP Server], and [DNS Settings] from the [IPv4 Settings] screen or the [IPv6 Settings] screen.

What address are you using for the mail server?

I think you want to use port 995 for inbound POP and SSL.

I am using pop.gmail.com for the pop3 server

I entered 995 as the port for inbound POP but could not find a place to view/change the SSL port.

Greetings ,

Today I'm near my 644. I'll look at it later this morning and post some screenshots.

Greetings,

Sorry for the delay.  These shots are from the MF644Cdw.  Its identical to the 654.

Reference:

  • Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
  • Port: 995 (for SSL/TLS)
  • Username: Your full Gmail address (e.g., yourname@gmail.com)
  • Password: App-Specific password)
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

To make modifications, you must be logged in as System Manager.  For incoming, you would only need to modify POP3 (Google uses port 995)

On this screen you need to enable POP RX and use TLS for POP

shadowsports_1-1741448287946.png

Now click the edit button, upper left.  Page changes.

When you check the POP RX box, the POP server box becomes editable.

shadowsports_3-1741448601059.png

Enter the username (full Gmail address and App Password.  16 characters, no spaces.  Gmail generates the password with spaces, but they are not needed.

Down below check Use TLS for POP.  Just that box, not what's below. Press OK to save.

Note you need to power cycles the printer for these settings to take effect.   I use the restart device button for graceful restart.

Hope this helps.
