imageCLASS MF665Cdw driver won't install, Winzip can't create output file

I have a new Image Class MF 665 Cdw printer. I downloaded the driver from Canon website (Master setup v220) for Windows 11. It won't install. Winzip can't create output file.

I want to print from computer, scan from computer or the printer itself, and copy which seems to work just fine.

Can anyone help?

The Window 11 drivers and all Canon software for your printer is located here. The master setup file which includes the driver file is an application, it is not a winzip file. It is the first program at the top of the list.

I have two Canon lasers.

For the 665Cdw, I would only download and install these three files.

The printer driver v3.50 for printing.

ScanGear for advanced scanning control and capability 

The MF Scan Utility for basic daily scanning tasks.  You'll probably use this most frequently, but it's nice to have scangear for more advanced features and control when you need it.  

You can install them in the order they appear.  The print driver first, scan gear second, then the MF scan utility.  Everything else is optional but not needed for a "bloat free" installation. 

important: If you are connecting the printer via a cable (USB), you should not connect the printer to your computer until prompted to do so by the print driver installation utility.  *If you have connected it first, you will have issues with the installation. You will need to disconnect it, uninstall the printer from your system and restart before running the print driver.  Then connect when prompted.

If you're connecting to a network, (wireless) You will have been prompted to make this connection the first time the printer is powered on.  Please ensure you follow the setup steps the first time the printer is powered on.  Paper selection, participation in the toner replenishment program (optional), setting a PIN for the Remote UI, performing color calibration and making a network connection if applicable.

All of the installers are self-extracting zip files.  These are Windows executables with a .exe file extension.  When run these automatically create a .zip file and extract them for you automatically. 

The error that you described above means the .exe file could not run.  Maybe because the download was corrupt or there is a permissions issue.

Hint: Here is a workaround for you. You can change the file extension for a self-extracting zip file from.exe to.zip manually.  Then right click on the file and select extract from the context menu. 😉

Inside the extracted folder they'll be a setup.exe which you can run. 🙂.  You don't normally have to do this, but you can use this in a pinch.

Thank you, Derrick. I found the Master setup after closing the winzip dialog box. Everything seemed to go smoothly from there.

Thank you for your reply and explanation! My bandwidth for computer problemscis narrow, (I'm 69 🙂 so I'll give those a shot tomorrow! Is the generic ufr ii 3.5 better than master set up?

There is another problem. It will not print from sleep, status just says error. I must turn printer off then on again and it will print.

Not clear on which path you took for install or the connection method you are using?

Please reread my reply, and decide which method you are going to use for install.  It sounds like you've already installed some of the software and connected the device.  It's one method or the other, you don't need to do both.  

Which Canon applications are now present on your computer?  What connection method are you using?

Once this is clarified we can try to figure out why the printer is not waking to print.

I downloaded Master, the first one in the list. Then went to downloads and followed the prompts. All wifi. The winzip error dialog box disappeared when I clicked ok then everything seemed to go ok. Print test page ok. Nex time I try to print it won't wake up. Turn off and on and it works. Could there be a printer conflict? I have an Epson printer/scanner on the same computer.

Thanks for clarifying.  Your other printer will not cause a conflict with your Canon Laser.  Since you are using a Wi-Fi connection I would recommend that you assign a static IP for the printer on your router.  If you log in and review the list of attached devices you will see the IP the router has assigned to the printer.  For simplicity you can use that one.

Once done, restart the printer gracefully.  Now open a web browser and enter the IP into the address bar (top).  Press enter and confirm the printers web server displays.  Now remove the printer from your computer and re-add it as a TCP/IP printer.  Essentially you're installing it using the IP address you have reserved for it.  You don't need to change any of the software you've installed it will continue to function.  The only difference is this, now the computer will use the printers IP address on your network for communication .  It's much more reliable.

Test printing.  Then wait for the printer to go to sleep.  It should take about a minute and the moon icon will display on the printer's control panel.  Then send another print job.  Let us know if the machine wakes and prints.
