IPV keeps changing on my imageCLASS MF653Cdw

I just bought the imageClass MF653Cdw.  The only two people who use this is myself and my wife in our home.  I thought I sent it up fine (I had to manually input the IP address for the scanner).  Today when I go to print the IPV IP address is different (and yes I get that warning).  If I reconnect to wireless then it prints fine.  I turned it off and turned it back on and same  thing happened.  What did I do wrong?  What do I need to fix?   (oh and I did not set it up where I needed a PIN to print or anything like that) Thank you

Thanks shadowsports. I definitely agree with regarding control of the router. I am a volunteer tech for a small non-profit Genesis Women shelter. There have been several leadership changes and having a hard time finding out getting that info. I will try to find out if I can get access to the router by looking at the sticker (hopefully it is on the label. Alternately please provide the step by step instruction on how to prevent the printer from sleeping, this way the IP will not change. Thanks again

I agree as this how it work in my home network. However, it seemed that the router at my client facility is not keeping the MAC info (I don’t know the make/model yet). In my own router, it remembers the MAC client and assign the same IP the next time the client reconnect.

Greetings,

The way a router or DHCP server "remembers" the MAC address of a device is by using a network protocol called ARP (address resolution protocol) table.

It maps IPv4 addresses to MAC addresses within a LAN.

IPv6 devices use a similar but different protocol called NDP.

You can Google both to learn more 😉

Consumer grade networking equipment is not known to be very robust as compared to enterprise class routers or switches and thus, do not have the processing power or memory needed to maintain ARP or NDP logs for extended periods.

On a low volume network, a device without a static IP might get the same address for a while....  Until (eventually) it doesn't 😲

I understand leadership changes, especially with start ups and non-profits.  I'm usually one of the people who was brought in to fix, stabilize and document what you are in the middle of now.  🙃

We are way off topic now.

To configure power management settings on the MF653Cdw, you need to have access to the printer's Remote UI and the ability to log in as a System Manager.  Here is mine as an example.
