So, something has happened and I can no longer perform duplex ADF scanning using the MF Scan Utility more. This HAS been working for years. I CAN do it from the printer console if I want to walk a back and fourth with a USB stick, but not using the utility. The software seems to only recognize the device having single sided scan capability.
I have
I don't seem to be able to find an older version of the utility to see if it is some kind of regression issue.

So, no one has any ideas why the device is suddenly only detected as being capable of simplex scanning after being a duplex scanner for 2 years?

Greetings,
I can assure you the 656 supports single pass duplex scanning. I'm not at home at the moment, but can look at this later this evening. It's not a "regression issue" and appears to be something related to your individual environment.
I'm sure there is a simple explanation as to why it's not appearing for you.

Greetings,
I'm running W11 24H2 and MF Scan Utility v1.21.0.2
ScanGear shows Feeder 2-Sided option
This issue is not related to firmware.
You need the 1st and 3rd drivers packages for full functionality. Install the MF drivers (UFRII) with ScanGear first, and the MF Scan Utility v1.21.0.2 second. The Master Setup is not needed.
It might be helpful if you give us some additional information.
How is the printer connected and to what?
When you "reinstalled" the software and drivers, did you remove the old device from Settings > Bluetooth and Devices, Printers & Scanners, first?
Did you uninstall the Canon software and restart your system before the re-install?
When you open the MF Scan Utility what appears in the upper right-hand corner of the drop down menu? There should only be one printer listed.
Please also look in Settings > Device Manager. Expand Imaging Devices
What appears there?
Hopefully your answers to the above questions will reveal the issue.
