pixma tr4722 - Won't Leave "scan mode"

My printer refuses to leave scan mode.  If I put a sheet to be copied on the flatbed, it scans.  Yes, I get a copy, but a laboriously slow one.  By contrast if I use my word processor, it copies correctly.  Tried same with sheet feeder, and back to scan.  My computer skills go back to using COBOL, so I am lost!

When you say copy, do you mean scanning to a file like a pdf or directly printing from copy mode?

OK...older computer, there was a scan mode and a copy mode, both using the flatbed.  now, I seem unable to get into the copy mode, only scan.  it prints out a copy, but using scan mode, which uses more ink.  I simply want to place a sheet that I want to copy and have it do that.  Progress!
