When you turn on Mac's print center ...it show the printer as connected but 'Offline. It took a while to set up the printer, but the first job it did was spectacular compared to the crappy old B/W printer hat was decades old..
I cannot break the code to get it back online? I would appreciate some help...

Hello!
If your Mac shows the printer as “Offline” even though it’s connected, restart both devices, check that they’re on the same network or try another cable/port, clear any stuck print jobs, and update drivers. If it still won’t come online, go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners, reset the print system, and re‑add the printer—this usually restores proper communication.

To verify and repair a printer connection use a USB/printer cable, it will make things simpler. You can change to wifi after making a good connection.

Thanks for joining the conversation, Wetstuff!
So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using. within the PIXMA TS6400 series. The model number should appear on the front of the unit at the lower right. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

What version of macOS are you using? Some people have been having problems since the Tahoe 26.3 update. I was having a similar problem after that update - printer showed online and then would show offline if I tried to print to it (I think it has something to do with CUPS), I had to remove the printer from macOS and then reinstall it to get print working again.

It's a model TS6420a. ..in 20min of trying various options: it refuses to make a handshake with the iMac (OS - Sequoia 15.73) Reconnect cables..but it will still not show on the Add printer list (there's some old ones I am unable to remove also?)
The info window on the printer wants to talk about the Ooops! paper tray cover in the front cassette ..which is well seated as are the sheets of 8.5x11. I also simply loaded the paper at the rear with also no result.
Should I try a wifi set up?
The printer worked absolutely perfectly on a multi color, 12 pg report a few days ago... Jim

Is there an error code with that message? Maybe a paper jam or something?

....inches an hour: 'No printer selected' was solved by reinserting the cable into the back (into a deep recess) a number of times ..''till I discovered it did not insert 'straight ..it needed a slight angle. Got it! Jeez...
But... my Mac shows an error: 'Load paper. I use the tray in the bottom front.. That itself is an error... I adjust the blue guides ..to no avail. I simply does not recognize the this tray.
HOWEVER... when I loaded the rear and pulled out the skeleton tray above the bottom tray... it worked 'as advertised! ...'rear tray it is! I love the print quality. I just wish it had been not designed by committee.
Thanks folks for the replies. Jim/Maryland
