Hello,
I am suddenly having problems with my S100. It will not take the picture when I press the shutter release. In case I had accidentally changed something, I did a Reset to Defaults. Then it worked, briefly, before returning to not working. It also would not let me change My Colors. Everything else seems to be working fine. Any ideas?

Sorry you did not have success Martin Smith. If you had some functionality before disassembly, and now completely dead, then something got damaged or loosened in the process. Or maybe the battery is dead.

I registered for this forum for the sole purpose of responding to this thread. 🙂 I ordered the part CM1-7226-000 just before Christmas from Canon Canada (spoke with Mike). It was $22.39 CAD and shipped from Japan -- part arrived a few days ago. My husband followed the procedure per post #400 (too chicken to do it myself! thank you jimpgh for the procedure!) and the camera seems to work again. It's like having a new camera except I don't get to unbox it! Anyway, just wanted to chime in that the part is available as of Dec 2015. Cheers!

Same thing happened to my wife's S100 last summer (2015). I bought the camera as a refurb from Adorama, and got a New Leaf extended warranty. Sent in for repair and came back not having been fixed. Now I see this issue all over the place: camera will achieve focus lock, but will not fire. This is a premium pocket camera from a major company, and it sounds like if this happens to you, you're simply out of luck. A $170+ repair cost charged by Canon for what appears to be a manufacturing or design flaw? Seriously Canon, you guys need to recall these cameras and just fix them.

The failure of the release button occurs in all modes. The focus mechanism is working. The release button failes in all lighting conditions. The problem used to be intermittent. Then it stopped completely. After not using the camera for several months it started to work again without interuption. For a good while now the release button is not working under all conditions and settings.

You can fix it yourself in about an hour, for under $20. Read earlier posts, starting with #400.
