SX280 - battery life shooting video

factoryguy

UPDATED May 5:

I apologize to the forum for mixing two different problems.  They are unrelated.

Problem #1:  User error.  I thought I was using a class 6 SD card but I was wrong. The yellow "!" indicates a pathologically slow card.  Upgrading to a class 10 resolved this problem.

Problem #2: UNRESOLVED.  Red battery indicator comes on prematurely.  On a fresh charge, it'll turn red after recording for a couple of minutes.  On a partially drained battery, it turns red immediately upon entering movie mode or pressing the record button.  Turn the camera off and then right back on in "still" mode and it shows full charge and works fine ... until trying to shoot video.  I have not precisely measured recording times but it'll record for at least 20 (maybe 30?) minutes while flashing red.

I don't understand....

I also updated the firmware and I thought it helped but only for the first video. After that, the battery indicator is again red on video mode, even when fully charged for photos. Camera is great except for this irritating problem. Canon, please fix this problem!

I think Canon doesn't fix that at all.

Why Canon did not fix this ? Maybe canon need recall the SX280 because of this mistake

is this a problem of the DIGIC 6 ?
I hope new cameras with DIGIC 6 did not have this problems

Firmware 1.0.2.0 does not solve the problem with battery indicator.

CANON, FIX IT PLEASE ! ! !

Sktr: Scroll through the past 68 pages and you'll see that Canon has already given its final answer. Canon says there is no problem. Think of the flashing red light not so much as a warning but a fun decoration. Other users here have found two workarounds. 1) Don't shoot video - ever. Or 2) Return the camera and buy another from a company that listens to customers.

Firmware 1.0.2.0 can not be the final solution !

A lot of people are unhappy. We'll see what he says court.

Canon doesn't care. Complain all you want.

Canon never more....  I will diffuse the message that Canon doesn't respect their clients... And the best is the camera still selling and cheating the people... Please Canon be ashamed....  All photo forums will know that...  Please other trick people do the same... The world must know how Canon doesn't respect the clients that give their money....

Best listen to UnionStation.  Canon has moved on from this issue.  The camera is good for still shots but is totally inadequate for video.  Maybe things will be better next year when they release an SX290.
