R6 in-camera video trimming - better way to set start point?

I shoot a ton of sports-- both photos and video. Typically I'll shoot video in 7-14 second clips, one clip immediately after another, HOPING a great play will happen and then I'll keep the clip (using the rating button).

ISSUE:  I often have 7-10 seconds of "nothing" at the beginning of a video clip, then an AMAZING play for the last 2 seconds.   The camera has a video "editing" mode where you can set the in- and out-points of a video and save the result.  HOWEVER,  it's incredibly slow and painful to move these in and out points.  The only control I can figure out is the back wheel, and it causes the point to move 1 frame at a time.  When shooting 60 FPS, this makes it AGONIZINGLY SLOW to move that in-point even 4 seconds.

Does anyone know whether there's some setting or other control that will move it 1-second at a time?  I couldn't find one by experimentation, checking Settings, or doing online searches.

Thanks!

Greetings,

For more granular control, I would recommend using a 3rd party editor.  DaVinci Resolve is free and supports up to 4K Output: 4K resolution (3840x2160) at up to 60fps in 8 bit.

I use Resolve Studio a TON for editing video!

but I'm asking a specific question here about trimming video files IN THE CAMERA.

I have downtime between plays when I rate images ... I would like to trim unnecessary video from the front-end of clips to reduce the size/length of some video clips-- this is theoretically possible, except for the fact that you can't move the in-point by 1 second at a time.

Why do I care about this?

The moment after I shot the 12-second-clip I *already know* that the first 9 seconds are useless. If I trim them in-camera, then (1) with smaller file size I can then reasonably-quickly transfer the video clip to my phone to post on Instagram from the field, and (2) I can reduce my editing time on the PC for 20-40 clips by not needing to watch all the unnecessary footage.

thanks!

Got it.  I understand.  I'm on Cinema OS.  These are the trimming options on the R6

I hear what you are sating.  Using the quick control dial to navigate is painful in 1 frame increments.  What about pressing the multi-controller?

Press Multi-controller left or right to go back or forward one frame. Keep pressing the multi-controller to fast rewind or fast forward frames. Each turn of the Quick control dial 1 dial goes back or forward one frame.

Joe,

Another option might be to use a video editing app on the phone itself. Transfer the clip to your phone, cut out the part you don't want and send it off.

Rick,

Yeah, thanks. I know, but he's also frustrated by having to go one frame at a time, and he wants to share the videos in real, or almost real time.

I thought that this might be an alternative.

Again -- THANK YOU!  I really appreciate all of you from the community offering a wide range of suggestions!

Rick has it right... it's a HUGE benefit to shrink file sizes ON THE CAMERA.    I'm also a heavy Capcut user (mobile video editing app).   I will edit together a handful of clips from the field and post on instagram after editing... but consider the difference between:
- move four 12-second clips from camera to phone over wifi.  (4-5 minutes... and no shooting with the camera while the move is happening) ... VERSUS

- move four 3-second clips from camera to phone over wifi -- that's just ONE MINUTE -- you can do that during a time out and keep shooting.

Huge difference!   Got to be able to make the clips smaller IN THE CAMERA.  🙂
