The SX720 HS is made in Japan. A lot of the SX line is made in Malaysia or Japan, not China. Neither is any better since the main components are from Canon Japan, and get assembled in whichever country that model is being made in. Canon backs them just the same no matter where the final assembly takes place. In general, the lower priced models will be from Malaysia, the higher end (costly) models with more controls will be from Japan.
