I have a PowerShot A40 which was given to me several years ago. The last time I tried to put the memory card in it would not go in. I took it to a camera shop and was told that 2 of the prongs at the bottom of the memory card holder were bent. I was also told since it was an old camera it would be hard to find someone to fix it and even if I did find someone it would cost more to fix than the camera is worth.
Is this information correct? If I cannot fix it is there anything else I can do with it other than trashing it? Is it worth anything to someone for parts?

Unless you can get in there and sraighten out those prongs yourself yes all that info is correct.
You can try to get rid of it on an auction site just don't expect to much for it
