Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to get some advice from anyone who has dealt with this hardware issue before. I have a Canon EOS M10 that I bought back in 2018, and it recently started acting up.
Suddenly started displaying a "Memory card error" on the screen.
When it didn't throw the error, the camera would occasionally shoot, but the files would end up completely corrupted (half-gray boxes, unopenable, etc.).
At first, I thought my SD card had just died of old age. However, after troubleshooting, I took a flashlight and looked closely inside the camera's SD card slot. Unfortunately, the problem is physical: one of the gold pins inside the card reader is bent completely flat.
I've attached a macro photo I took of the slot so you can see the damage.
Because the pin is bent, it's obviously not making a stable electrical connection with the SD card, which explains both the errors and the corrupted image files. I know better than to stick tweezers in there and try to bend it back myself, as I've read those pins are incredibly brittle and will just snap off.

According to Internet search, Canon ended repair support for that camera in September 2024. You could always contact Canon support for most current answer - 1-800-OK-CANON. You could also ask Canon about Loyalty Program upgrade.
You might be able to find an independent repair shop to fix it. MPB has three available for ~$350 or less, as a comparison to repair cost.
Depending on how many lenses you have you may want to consider this as the opportunity to switch to the R-series. EOS R50 would be a good transition body.

This a I agree with that and is likely to happen but at this point what have you got to lose? Right now you are looking at a repair and if you snap it off you are looking at a repair. if you get lucky put the SD in and leave it in. Don't remove it again.
