Pixma MF5720 Won't use black to print monochrome

Hello all, does anyone know how to make this printer use black to print monochrome? It stopped using the black ink after I did an update a couple of years ago. Now I keep running out of magenta and cyan even though I mostly try to print black and white.

Thank you

Hi Giselle85,

Thank you for your inquiry, and welcome to the Canon Forums. We appreciate your participation, however, for the community to best assist you can you provide us with the following information:

1.  Operating System of the computer?
2.  How is your printer connected?
3.  The model name of the printer?
4.   Are you printing color document in grayscale?

Grayscale uses other colors to print color documents or internet pages in monochrome. You can see if this is set in the printer driver. Open the Printer Driver Setup Window through the Application Software.

Follow the procedure below to configure printing profile when printing:

1.  Select the command that you perform printing on the application software

In general, select Print on the File menu to open the Print dialog box.

2.  Select your model name and click Preferences (or Properties)

The printer driver setup window appears.

3.  Click on the Main Tab.

4.  Check the Grayscale Printing check box on the Main tab.
