MF656CDW continually says load paper

BBelnap

I have a relatively new MF656CDW that continually asks to load paper. The paper tray is full, I've checked the feed rollers, too.

How can I fix this?

Greetings,

This behavior can occur if the default paper registration is changed or set to a source where no paper is loaded.  This can be done on the printer or in the printer driver.

See the following for more help.

Thanks for the response, but that's not the cause.

I have 2 sources, the paper tray and the manual feed. The paper tray is the default, and the default paper type is LTR/Plain 2 and has been since the original configuration.

What's the next step

Thanks

If you find a solution to this, let me know.  I have the same exact problem on a new MF656.

Me too. Asks every time and is really annoying. Makes the printer not worth the trouble. I interrupt every single job and is absolutely a make-or-break failure.

Greetings,

There are three places (potentially) where paper types can be specified.  This can be on the printer, in the printer driver or in the application you're printing from.  If you are consistently asked to load paper then a mismatch exists.

If you visit the link I posted above you can see how to register the Paper Source automatically for the job or function.

The workflow has to be consistent in the printer settings, in the printer driver and the paper type that's registered for the drawer or source.

If you are not comfortable with this process I suggest you contact Canon Support.  They will be happy to walk you through the set up.
