A few questions to get the ball rolling:
If there are any other computers available, could the 642 be connected to one of them to see if it can communicate with it?
Is it possible that the cable itself may be bad?
The 642 can be networked via Wi-FI or an Ethernet cable. If, for some reason the printer will not work when direct connected to the computer, would any of these other options be doable?

The 642 will not scan to my computer. The 642 screen says there is no computer connected.

Let me focus on the last symptom. If my memory is correct, the USB drive should be 32GB or less. I can't recall how the drive should be configured....FAT32 possibly? 🤔
